The following page contains a variety of resources to assist LGBTQ+ students during their time in college and beyond, as well as resources for those who are interested in learning more about the LGBTQ+ community or want to be a better ally of LGBTQ+ people.
Current resources include an LGBTQ+ Terminology Guide, a Chosen Names and Pronouns Guide, which explains the importance of pronouns and “chosen names” in the LGBTQ+ community and information about them, and a name change guide for students with resources for every campus and in North Dakota at-large. Below, you will find more comprehensive descriptions of each resource along with a PDF of each guide.
LGBTQ+ Terminology Guide
This guide contains definitions of commonly used terms in the LGBTQ+ community. If you are currently looking for a way to identify or want to know more about what’s included in “LGBTQ+,” then this guide is for you!
Chosen Names and Pronouns Guide
This guide explains two important topics. First, it discusses chosen names, which allow students to have their preferred name listed on their email title, class roster, and in Blackboard. Second, it talks about pronouns, and why they matter in the LGBTQ+ community. It additionally provides examples of pronouns and ways to reduce misgendering.
Legal, University, and College Name
Change Guide in North Dakota
This guide will walk you through how to change the name currently listed in the North Dakota University System to your preferred name. It also provides links for how to change your legal name in the state of North Dakota and how you can do that at each university and college once you have gone through a legal name change. As a note, you can still have your preferred name listed on Blackboard, in your email display name, and on class rosters without the legal name change by changing it in the NDUS system.
